Your old 8mm and 16mm family films contain priceless images of your most precious memories of past family and friends.  Unfortunately, finding a working 8mm projector to view the films is becoming more and more difficult.  Let us solve this problem for you by transfering your old family films to long-lasting easy-to-view DVD's.

Surprisingly, even though the majority of people stopped using their 8mm film cameras about 25 years ago as VHS and BetaMax video technology came along, many people have stilll not transferred their films to an easier to view media.  The good news is that technology available today is even better.

Today we can transfer your old home films directly to DVD so you can view your memories with the push of a button and easily jump from chapter to chapter to view different events.  Lets face it, even if you still had a working projector who wants to go through the hassle of trying to load and watch your old films on a movie projector?  Best of all once we make the original transfer to DVD you can make copies starting at only $10 each.  So your whole family can enjoy.

How does it work? First you should go through your old films and try to pick an order based on the notes that were written on the tape cases.  If their are no notes then sometimes you can get a film processing date off of the yellow box the film came from the lab in. 8mm film canisters typically come in one of three sizes.  The smallest ones are about 2.5 inches in diameter and contain 50 feet of film. These are the ones the lab sent back after developing the original film. Some people with splicing and editing kits would typically splice together those small reels onto either 200 foot reels or 400 foot reels.

If your film hasn't already been spliced on to large reels we splice them together to get a more consistant transfer.  The films are played in specially designed equipment made to sycronize the frame rate of the film to the new frame rate of video so you don't get flickering. The image is projected directly into a 2/3 chip broadcast quality camera and recorded on to digital tape to preserve the highest amount of detail. The advantage of this is that if you decide at a later date you want to edit the films the digital tape becomes the perfect source to edit from and can act as a backup.

Once the entire set of films is on digital tape we make the final transfer to DVD.  During this process we add chapter points every 5 minutes and an opening menu so you can launch the video.  A cover is printed that shows a thumbnail print of what is going on at each chapter point.  This way you can look at the case and easily determine the content of your new DVD.

You get back your original films, the digital tapes and your DVD's containing all of the content of your films. The whole process takes about two weeks to complete usually but sometimes we can do it faster.
